Ok…so now we’re on the last part of Genesis’ rants against atheism.
When believers became too desperate, it’s time to change tactic - time to place atheism in the same plane…accuse it as a religion, a belief system or that it also requires faith.
Genesis (Written: 2009 December 30)
No matter how strenuously some may try to deny it, atheism is a belief system. It requires just as much faith (believing) to embrace that God does not exist, even more belief than a Christian would need to believe he does exist.
Genesis assumes that all propositions are created equal. That’s not true. There are propositions that cannot be disproved like for example “a black rose exist”. Yet other proposition can be disproved like “a married bachelor exists”. As I have already said, proposition with logical contradictions can be disprove.
Beside, as a rule, since Genesis is the one that presuppose “God exist” and she is the…er…expert in God matters, the burden of proof lies with her. Atheists are just bunch of people who merely fails to accept the claim. Remember, if the proof of Genesis’ fails, negative atheism is justifies. And if negative atheism is justified, then positive atheism claim is true.
Now is atheism a belief-system?
There are meny definitions of a belief system. Some says that a belief system is a way of perceive and interact in a society guided by a set of established moral rules. Other says that a belief system is a group of beliefs concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions and rituals associated with such beliefs (Wikipedia, 2006). So, to say it bluntly, a belief system is the actual set of precepts from which you live your daily life, those which govern your thoughts, words, and actions.
So base on the definitions abouve...well atheism will not fit the bill.
Atheism is not a belief but the absence of belief. To believe in nothing is not, de facto, to believe in something. An atheist is not a person who believe that a god doesn’t exist, rather a person who does not believe in the existence of a god. Beside, his disbelief is not the total definition of what he is. Atheism is just a single part of his whole self.
You don’t want to believe in God because you cannot see him, so do not believe in the air too as it cannot be seen!..
A lot of Filipino Christians guess that an atheist doesn’t believe in God because he can see Him. I always encounter this kind of argument in Luneta.
Compare to air, there are more reason not to believe in a god than visual stimulus. Now, we can’t see air because most of the elements that make up air don't absorb light in wavelengths that humans can see. But we can prove it exists.
First, since air is matter, it has mass. That’s why when you buy an LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) for your gas stove, it says 11 kgs.
Second, air occupies space. That’s why a balloon inflates when you blow into it.
Third, Air also has temperature.
How about God? What does it have?
Honestly, I am a Christian, but If I would meet someone nice which happens to be an Atheist, I will accept him as a friend.
It is said that if you want to have enemies, talk about religion and politics.
I also have Christians and Islamic friends. I also have friends who’re into mysticism and the occult. But our rule as friends is simple: Don’t ask them about their belief-system. Simple isn’t it?
Sometimes, you cannot blame why these people became Atheist. Most of them grew up on some sort of religious practices. However, such religious practices caused these people to doubt instead of believe. And why not? The Bible so long ago prophesied that there would arise false preachers/prophets who would use the word of God in bad faith to deceive many.
Undoubtedly, these Atheists are intelligent enough to discern first that their religion (mostly Bible reading ones) is false, then because of the the many out-of-this-world doctrines out of wrong Biblical interpretations, more doubts are being created, leading them to wilfully deny the existence of God. It is a sad reality though.
So does atheism a reaction of bad religion?
Some atheists did have some bad experience, but this is not the only reason why they became atheists. Most atheists don’t believe in a God because they see no good, rational reason for believing in it in the first place…regardless of what religion, sect or cult are trying to re-introduce the god-concept to them again.
