Nihilism is the position that existence is without objective meaning, purpose or value while atheism is the position that deities do not exist, or the rejection of theism. Nihilism is NOT the 'belief in nothing' and it is quite different from atheism because nihilism is not just the refutation of God but it is the refutation of morality, of law, of justice, and of all artificial order.
Some atheists are nihilists; however, if they hold that existence can have a purpose and/or meaning then they're not nihilists. Some atheists, such as Nietzsche, held that Christianity was a nihilist religion because it lead to having an apathy towards this life. But that doesn't mean that all atheists are nihilists.
